Of course you would prefer to get an A+ in dental care, if you were to be graded, than to receive anything else! So, whether you feel you’re already getting super-high marks or if you can readily admit your efforts are only somewhat satisfactory, we’re here to help. With some clarification and simple suggestions from our Springfield, OH team, you will quickly see that doing your absolute best (and reaping the benefits) is very easy to do!
Consider Consistency And Frequency
Remember that dental care that you’re practicing effectively and successfully is care that is consistent and that is following the frequency we suggest. What does this mean exactly? Well, you might be able to say that you brush every single day! However, you’re only achieving an A+ in this department if you’re doing so twice daily. You may have scheduled your last two dental checkups and cleanings six months apart from one another, as we suggest … but if that was two years ago, you’re missing the consistency factor! As always, these are the simple and very important guidelines:
- Brush (2x daily)
- Floss (1x daily)
- Schedule preventive visits (2x annually; every six months)
Figure Out What Works For You
Your friend or loved one may schedule dental visits in the summer and winter and may naturally feel motivated to brush and floss without setting aside time. This same person may love mint toothpaste and unwaxed floss. It’s very possible that these things will work for you! However, it’s also very possible that they will not. You may prefer to see us every six months but during spring and fall. You may not feel terribly compelled to practice your dental care, so the autopilot approach doesn’t work. The result? You need to set aside dedicated time morning and evening to ensure you’re brushing and flossing. Mint may be a repulsive flavor to you, so selecting a different flavor is a better bet. As for floss? You prefer waxed. In short: We suggest you do what works for you, as long as you are sticking to the general rules of what makes for a healthy smile.
Bring Up Changes
Sometimes, things change. You may notice pain. You might see a visible change like red gum tissue. Or, a variety of other abnormalities may crop up and grab your attention. If this happens, don’t keep them to yourself. Call and share them with us, so we may see you between preventive visits and offer quick dental care, if you require it. We remind patients that it’s an easy way to keep up care, so oral health can very easily stay the course!
